# Complete Cafe QR Menu Kit — version 2

Original UseCase Picks kit, 26 October 2026. You may use and adapt the original menu, editor, sign layouts and illustrations for your own cafe or restaurant. The bundled QR library has its own MIT license in LICENSE-qrcode-generator.txt.

## Start in two clicks

Extract the ZIP completely. Open **START-HERE.html**, then **Customize your menu**. Keep the extracted files together. Opening HTML inside a ZIP preview can prevent the editor from finding its scripts.

This is a complete, filled-out cafe-and-kitchen menu: **60 items across 10 sections**, not a seven-item demonstration. Corner Cup branding, recipes and INR prices are customizable starting content; they do not represent an operating business or researched market prices.

## Included

| File | Purpose |
| --- | --- |
| START-HERE.html | Kit home and quick start |
| editor.html + editor.js | Offline business/menu editor and QR/sign generator |
| menu-template.html | Complete standalone customer menu; searchable with JS, fully readable without JS |
| menu-data.json | Editable backup of all business details and 60 items; import in the editor |
| menu-data.js | Initial editor data; keep with the editor |
| menu-items.csv | Item list for Excel/Sheets review; not an import format for this editor |
| menu-builder.js | Shared menu renderer used by the editor |
| qrcode.js + LICENSE-qrcode-generator.txt | Bundled MIT-licensed offline QR generator |
| printable-sign.html | Existing clearly labelled demonstration sign |
| cafe-menu-demo-qr.svg / .png | Existing QR for the UseCase Picks template address only |

## What customers get

Ten sections: Hot Coffee; Cold Coffee; Tea & Warm Drinks; Coolers & Shakes; All-Day Breakfast; Sandwiches & Wraps; Burgers; Pizza & Pasta; Sides & Small Plates; Desserts. Each item has a description, portion, price, food-preference label and availability. Owners can mark house picks and unavailable items, edit categories or add/remove items (up to 300).

The menu has category jumps, text search, food-preference filtering, clear/reset, no-result recovery and a print button. JavaScript adds filtering only; all menu items are present in HTML and remain readable when JavaScript is disabled. The menu does not take orders, accept payments, reserve tables or determine live stock.

## 1. Customize locally

1. Open editor.html in a current desktop browser. Internet access is not needed for editing or QR generation.
2. Replace the cafe name/tagline. Add your actual hours, address and contact text if wanted; blank fields disappear from the customer menu.
3. Review **every** item, recipe, portion, food-preference label and price. Edit price/tax/charge wording for your operation. No tax rate or dietary compliance is certified by the kit. Verify ingredient information, including sauces, breads and garnishes, with your actual recipes/suppliers.
4. Search the editable table to work on one category. Add items, rename categories or remove rows as needed. A new category name creates a section automatically.
5. Set the date, ingredient/allergy notes and availability. Food-preference labels do not guarantee allergy-safe food or separate preparation.
6. Preview the result. When your menu is ready for customer use, uncheck **Show the template notice**. This also removes the template noindex tag from the exported menu.
7. Download **menu HTML** (named index.html) and **editable JSON**. Save the JSON somewhere safe. The editor does not autosave; reopening the kit without importing your JSON restores the initial menu.

Use **Load a saved menu JSON** to continue editing later. Keep JSON as your master copy. CSV is an optional spreadsheet review/export; editing CSV does not automatically update the HTML or JSON, and CSV import is not provided.

## 2. Publish the menu

Upload the downloaded index.html to a permanent public HTTPS menu address on hosting you control or ask your website maintainer to do it. The exported menu is self-contained: it needs no kit scripts, external fonts or external images. Google Drive is useful for distributing this ZIP, but a Drive folder link does not host this HTML as a customer menu website.

Open the exact public menu URL while signed out and on a phone. Check it requires no owner login or request-access step. The kit does not publish or verify public hosting, and no hosting/domain/printing permanence or lifetime-free service is promised.

## 3. Generate your own QR and sign

1. In the editor, enter your **published HTTPS menu URL**, then click **Generate my static QR**. A short URL under your own domain makes a simpler printed code.
2. Check the displayed encoded destination. The generator runs in your browser; it does not send the URL to a QR service or insert a vendor redirect. It cannot prove the address is public or that a URL you pasted is not itself a redirect.
3. Download the QR SVG for scalable print, QR PNG, and the complete **table sign HTML**. The sign embeds the QR, cafe name and visible fallback URL; no missing external QR image is required.
4. Open the sign and use Print. Starting page size is 100 × 148 mm with a 48 mm square QR. Check Print Preview, paper selection and scaling; turn off browser print headers/footers. These dimensions are design choices, not a guaranteed scanning size.
5. Scan an actual printed sample with more than one phone, in your lighting and stand. Check the destination, glare, readability and blank border. Keep a printed menu or staff-assisted option available.

The supplied cafe-menu-demo-qr files and printable-sign.html retain the demonstration address **https://usecasepicks.in/examples/cafe-qr-menu/**. They are not your business QR. Public deployment of that address is separate; software decoding does not prove it is live. Generate your own code in the editor for operational use.

## 4. Print a full fallback menu

Open the menu HTML and select **Print menu** or your browser's Print command. Choose A4 portrait and inspect the preview. The print stylesheet includes every category/item even if screen search or preference filters are active. It hides search controls and artwork, uses a compact two-column layout and keeps individual item details together where possible. Save as PDF from your browser if needed. Review pagination after editing long descriptions or adding items.

## 5. Update without changing the code

Load your saved JSON, edit the menu, update its date and download a fresh HTML/JSON pair. Replace the menu at the **same public URL**. Reload via the old QR in a fresh browser and check that the changed price or availability appears. Test actual hosting/cache behaviour. The static QR's destination cannot be changed inside the printed code: if your URL changes, maintain and test a suitable redirect under your control or generate/reprint a new QR.

## Troubleshooting

- **Blank editor:** extract all files, keep the scripts next to editor.html, and enable JavaScript. Open menu-template.html to view/print without the editor.
- **Edits disappeared:** import your saved JSON. There is no automatic cloud sync or autosave.
- **CSV did not update the menu:** CSV is a review export; make changes in the editor and download fresh HTML/JSON.
- **QR buttons are disabled:** generate a QR for a valid public HTTPS address. Changing the address clears the previous code to avoid stale downloads.
- **Customer sees old prices:** confirm you replaced the correct public file; review publishing/cache behaviour with your host.
- **Print looks cramped:** shorten descriptions or adjust browser print settings, then inspect every page.

## Privacy, rights and verification

The kit contains no analytics, external font requests or customer data collection. The standalone menu and editor assets work locally; hosting may have its own access logs. Recipe text and artwork are original kit content. QR generator source: https://github.com/kazuhikoarase/qrcode-generator/tree/master/js (MIT notice included). No physical tasting, operating-cafe pricing, regulatory approval, public deployment or phone-camera/physical-print success is implied by supplying these files.
